Crypto Positive Argentine wins Presidency

  • by

The winner of Argentina’s run-off presidential election is far-right libertarian Javier Milei. In light of Argentina’s ongoing inflation crisis, Milei’s triumph is vital.

Notably, in response to the current economic climate, he has proposed replacing the U.S. dollar for the Argentinian Peso and has advocated for the adoption of Bitcoin.

In the runoff election for president of Argentina, Javier Milei won, according to preliminary figures, with a significant margin of about 56% versus Sergio Massa’s 44%. This result indicates a dramatic shift in the political and economic climate of the country.

“Today begins the reconstruction of Argentina,” Milei declared in an eloquent victory address, promising to restore the nation’s lost global standing.

Milei’s triumph, which ends the Peronist hegemony for good, coincides with Argentina’s experience of inflation and unstable economic conditions. Milei has stated that he supports Bitcoin, seeing it as a way to give the private sector more power and take back control over the financial system.

In addition, he supports dismantling Argentina’s central bank since he believes it to be bogus.

But in contrast to President Bukele of El Salvador, who has accepted Bitcoin as legal cash, Milei is in favor of utilizing the US dollar in Argentina’s economy as a response to the country’s current 142.7% inflation rate.

Meanwhile, with $85.4 billion in transaction volume and widespread grassroots acceptance, Argentina has shown a strong interest in cryptocurrencies. This tendency stems from a desire to avoid the devaluation of the peso, skyrocketing inflation, and restrictions on finding foreign cash.

Reactions to Milei’s triumph have been divided around the world. Former US President Trump praised him and predicted that under his direction, Argentina will revive. These views were mirrored by White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, who emphasized that the US intended to fortify bilateral relations based on common democratic principles.

Leaders from South America, such as Gabriel Boric of Chile and Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of Brazil, applauded and offered their backing. Gustavo Petro, the leader of Colombia, on the other hand, voiced concerns, believing that Milei’s neoliberal strategy was inadequate to meet the issues facing Latin America.
